Chapter 19
(Ryker)
August 31, 2017
August passed through with few problems. Jason, Noel, and I got shit done and we earned plenty of money in photo shoots and ads of course. Having a kickass website and social network helped too, not to mention Jasonâs side polo gig.
I called Jason as soon as I woke up and invited him over to the condo. Being in Tribalâs helped my image, and to return the favor to Jason, I had to go one step beyond. He arrived around noon. âNice website you got, Jace,â I said, pouring a glass of orange juice for myself and a glass of chocolate milk for Jason. I never had the junk milk in my fridge before meeting the runt, and his metabolism must have been one of cosmic proportions. To be honest, I was jealous. He could eat three chocolate cakes in one day and not gain a pound.
We talked over the table, sipping our drinks. With him comfy, it was time to shoot the shit. âDude, your birthdayâs at the end of next month, right?â
Jason nodded eagerly. âOh, you remembered.â
âCool, since I had a little trip planned.â
âOh, really? Where at?â
âHold on a sec.â I got up and opened my blinds. My condo had the perfect view of Coronado Island just off to the right and San Diego Bay. If it werenât for the Navy bases on the strand, it would have been a paradise to see every time I woke up. âHey look outside, dude. Whatâch you see?â
Jason walked up to the panoramic window, disinterested in the view. âThe ocean.â
âNot just the ocean, Jace. The beach, and I figured for your birthday, weâd go up the coast for a little camping trip. Just you and me, no Noels allowed.â
âBut isnât that expensive? Iâve never gone camping, and If we do, how am I going to pay off my debt?â
âWait a minute.â Jason never mentioned a debt to me before. We had been dating since June, and the thought never crossed his mind? âStart over.â
âUh, my cousin Tylerâs been helping me,â
Who the hell was Tyler? If he didnât say he was his cousin, then Iâd say heâd been cheating on me. It wasnât my business. âHowâs he been helping you, dude?â
Jason told me the whole story. From what I got, his cousinâs been cashing him money every month so he doesnât starve, and since I joined TCS, Tylerâs turned into a real asshole, and today was Jasonâs day of reckoning. âWe have enough to meet his demands, Ryk. Iâm going to set my phone down and use your restroom. If he calls, answer it.â
âUh, sure.â I said as Jason set his phone on the counter and went into my bathroom.
A minute later, the cell phone buzzed and I answered it. âJaceâs phone.â
âWho the fuck is this?â said a voice who needed a serious shower. If that was Jasonâs cousin, he already met my expectations of the asshole Jason told me about.
âHeâs busy, dude. You got a message?â
âHell, yeah I do.
